Overcoming disaster

The down spout in my garage/ warehouse overflowed or backed up causing some flooding and yukky black stuff to saturate piles of my stock.
This must have happened whilst I was at the cabin.

So, I have been airing/washing/chucking for the last couple of days.

Looking on the bright side several items surfaced that have not seen the light of day for years.

Most of the fabric is coming up well. I had entirely forgotten about these retro juvenile pieces, some still in the wash.

Two antique heavy weight wool quilts airing on the lawn, I think it will take several days to freshen them up and more rain storms forecast for tomorrow.

  1. OH NO Jan, my heart is breaking for you..... all that lovely fabric. I do like the Swan Lake one, Sis and I had very similar Wall Paper on one wall of our Bedroom back in the 1950s♥

  2. I can only begin to imagine the mess you must be dealing with. I'm so sorry - however, on the bright side, just look at the treasures you're finding.

  3. Sorry to hear about the dilemma Jan. Thankfully, most of the marks will wash out, and as you say, you've discovered pieces you'd almost forgotten. I like the Swan Lake one too, have never seen a print like that before. Thank you for your constant support on my blog. You are a gem. Such a bright and positive person.

  7. Thank you for such a sweet comment! I love that you're from Toronto!!!! I lived there for a year in 2008 and have such a warm place in my heart for that beautiful city! I also miss the vintage shopping terribly!

See you around the web world!

  9. Sorry to hear about your flooding. Our garage was flooded last December and clearing it out, drying everything out and washing textiles was a nightmare. Fortunately, we didn't lose much but it was a very exhausting time.

  11. That happened to one of my friends last month, but it wasn't the weather...she'd run a bath for herself, then got involved in a book and forgot about the bath. An hour or so later, their basement was flooded, carpet soaked, and the hotwater service empty! She was washing stuff for weeks on end.
Bonus for you, finding stuff you'd forgotten.
