Quince Jelly

I thought that 2013 was going to be the first time in several decades that I have not put up some kind of jam or preserves. I have  just been run off my feet this summer.

But, my good friend Sandy stole a few quinces from a neighbours bush for me, they have been sitting in the fridge for a few weeks. My canning supplies live at the cottage up north.

I was able to find  a few jars,  labels bought some years ago in Mapua and lid toppers from a boot fair in Wakefield NZ. tucked away in a back cupboard at home.

Quince goes a long way as it is full of pectin. I must say the jelly turned out well....if a bit hard!

But the labels have a life or death of their own.

  2. Ha Ha - those labels are pesky aren't they. Did you put them on when the jars were still warm? I made chutney this week and completely ruined it by putting in too much cloves - back to the drawing board to make more sans cloves!Love your jars.

    1. I think the problem with the labels was that they were about 5 years old.
Do you have a good recipie for mincemeat?

  6. I don't think that I have had quince jelly, but it looks very nice. I don't do any preserving but, fortunately, my Mum makes jam. Damson is my favourite and supermarkets don't do damson jam so she makes me a few jars full of it.

  7. Yum! I wish I could nab some, the tree I used to snaffle from was cut down. Boo hoo!

Shame about the labels but you could try using swing labels tied to the lids.
