Surprise sellers this season have been ponchos! I can hardly keep them in stock for my market stall.
Of course, they have to be very nice ones , homemade, ethnic, hand woven perhaps....no yukky acrylic for my customers.
Nice old handknits are going well too. My sweater selection has had to expanded as real old Cowichans are getting increasingly difficult to find.
On the etsy front I am surprised at how well the cashmere sweaters are going. I inherited two large boxes from my daughter from the time she was selling vintage.
And.....after years of being piled at the back of the
On the other hand, my collection of vintage aprons has gone nowhere.
Funnily enough, I noticed your cashmere sweaters on Etsy - really lovely colours, and of course warm and cosy for this time of the year.
ReplyDeleteProblem with cashmere is, once you start wearing it you can't wear anything else.
DeleteHi New blog follower here...I too Love vintage textiles...and its so hard to gauge the market...I look forward to reading more posts from you...enjoy your evening...Hugs lil raggedy Angie
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, Angie. You have a very professional blog.
DeleteIt's so hard to judge what the market will be at any given time, just like it's impossible to know what will become *the* collectible item of the future. Makes me think of the things that my grandmother and mother got rid of as junk that are now highly sought after.
ReplyDeleteand the things we got rid of in our youth! My aunt knitted me the most wonderful shetland lace mini dress and what about all those Biba dresses I had ( not well made but highly collectible)
DeleteHmm. I can give ponchos a miss but I am rather lusting after the Scottish dusty rose cashmere sweater - if the neck were a little lower I might just go for it.
ReplyDeleteFancy getting rid of your Biba dresses - but, who knew?
lots more coming, let me know if there is anything you fancy.
DeleteBiba, you mentioned Biba....sigh. My aunt lived in London in those days and saved so much Biba merchandise, her wedding dress was Ossie Clark. I remember her coming home and giving me half used Biba lip gloss, a little bag perhaps from Biba. This Christmas I discovered that House of Fraser in England had a Biba ranger and I bought her a Biba Christmas tree ornament. She was so shocked but she loved it. I got myself one too.
ReplyDeleteAn Ossie Clark wedding dress! Wow......museum worthy.
