Sunday market at St Lawrence

Sunday at St Lawrence Market. A long day, but, alas very slow, in fact, my worst day in 15 years. So, what to do...I have cancelled the next week and resolved not to go for the next month...no more shopping either (if I can stop)

One of the problems in this once, lively collectors/antique market, is that it has been dumbed down. Stalls with mountains of unironed 'vintage' clothes for $5, new hockey shirts, face creams etc. This is discouraging for the many antique/collector vendors who do a terrific job...presenting with flair , intelligence and knowledge.

So many people attend ( I have no problems with numbers) who have no idea what they are looking at. ie, 'does it come in other colors' ...a 19th century quilt.

My next resolve, is to list more items on etsy... currently I sit at about 190 listings...so whats wrong with 250?

brickworks market and treasuries

Another sunny, Saturday morning at the Brickworks Farmers Market. Here are some vendors, including Allison Millar with Alli's Bread, a regular fixture. She makes the best stickiest, cinnamon buns. I am getting used to the scaffolding, this week I even packed some bungee cord to hang up the vintage aprons.

I had a good day, and am spoilt by having my breakfast delivered to my booth by Chez Vous. I usually have the scrambled egg, bacon and pesto sandwich which lasts me nearly all day, I look foward to it every market day. See this blog for a piccy of them.

Happily, I had two scarves featured in fun treasuries on etsy this week........Totally 80s

and Volkswagons and Avocados......both vintage Vera scarves tied in a bow; something must be in the air!

Friday Fabrics

I studied and designed printed textiles at one point in my life and loved it. I'm happy to see these artisans selling their hand printed fabrics on etsy. They all look so fresh and timeless.

a stitch in time

I knitted these sweaters in the 1980s from 'a stitch in time' by Jane Waller and Susan Crawford, patterns from the 20s -50s. The book is long gone, though I understand it is now reissued. Here is my granddaughter wearing them in 2010. Susan has an interesting blog 'just call me ruby' and is editor of 'knitonthenet', a terrific on line knitting magazine.

Its Thursday....so it must be Hermes day. This one I bought a church rummage sale over 30 years ago, before I knew what an Hermes was.

Looking at a 40s movie the othernight I wondered what etsy had to offer on really, really gorgeous, beautifully made lingerie. Not what I expected to find, but here are some charming examples.

Some of my quilts that are up for sale over on zibbet. I have had no action at all, not even an inquiry. Perhaps the items are wrong for that venue, when they expire I will try a new line...whadya'think?

thrifting Mondays

one always has to have an open mind when out scouring the thrifts. Actually, my finds today were not exactly a stretch for me.

4 (yes 4) Pendleton shirts in great condition...I love the depth of color Pendleton gets . They will join my collection at the cabin, where I have almost a whole wall of these shirts.

4 little hand woven wool placemats....also for the cabin.

A cabin craft type chenille and a machine quilted 40s 50s juvenile quilt. Both need a bit of work.

You can always tell Ive been out buying when the photos are taken on the drive as I unload the car. At the moment I am soaking a filthy, very heavy real Cowichan wool jacket that I bought ; I may have bitten off more than I can chew.
